In a swordfight between warriors, after one side beats his opponent, according to samurai etiquette, he should kill him. Not giving the finishing blow is called "kirisute", and a samurai who did this would be ridiculed for lacking the required levels of coolness and calmness, as well as not knowing proper etiquette.
