Chime
School subjects/Subject departments
The origin of the chime sound used in many Japanese schools is the bell from Britain's Big Ben (the London clocktower). The chime marks the beginning and end of each lesson. Apparently there are also some schools that have no chime, these being of the opinion that by relying on such measures students lose the ability to practise effective time-management by themselves.
