These are expressions used by the butler, maid or servants of an upper-class household. The character's speech is usually directed towards the family of the head of the household, so a large variety of formal polite language is used, including 「~de gozaimasu」 (is~), 「o~kudasaimase」 (please~) and 「~itashimasu」 (do~humbly). With questions, the continuative form is often used, as in 「~desu to?」 or 「o tsumori de?」 (do you intend to~?). It is characteristic for the servant to add the member of the household's title at the end of their phrases, as in 「~, go shujin.」 (~, Master/Mistress).
